Glenwood Hot Springs Resort: The World’s Largest Hot Springs Pool

In fact, we visit the Glenwood Hot Springs pool every year and are always sad to leave since we enjoy the experience so much. 

The city of Glenwood Springs is constantly growing and updating the attractions and downtown area for visitors. 

The town is home to one of Amtrak’s most scenic train rides, Doc Holliday’s grave, and the historic Fairy Caves.

The history and minerals of Glenwood Springs Hot Springs 

Since the 1880s Glenwood Hot Springs has been world-renowned as the go-to place for therapeutic spring waters.

These sacred waters were named Yampah, by the Ute Native Americans, which literally means Big Medicine.

Some of the minerals in the water include magnesium, calcium, and iron to name a few!

From drinking to bathing, it’s believed there are loads of health benefits in these rich mineral waters. 

In the early 1900s this hot springs destination became known as the Spa of the Rockies for its hot spring bathing and drinking water spring.

Today, Glenwood Hot Springs offers a clean and updated resort with a therapy pool, lap pool, lazy river, slides, kiddie pool, and water fountains.

Stay at the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge

When visiting the Glenwood Hot Spring Pool we recommend staying at the Hot Springs Lodge, located across the street from the spa.

The lodge was recently refurbished and updated with a more modern but still rustic feel that’s clean and comfortable.

The Lodge, the Spa and the Hot Springs themselves are located in a relatively secluded corner of the city.

So, there isn’t a lot of thru-traffic or people walking around besides fellow lodge guests or pool patrons.

Really makes it feel like it’s its own little slice of paradise within the town of Glenwood Springs.

The Hot Springs Lodge offers a Stay-and-Save bundle package that includes free parking, a free hot breakfast every morning, and unlimited visits to the hot springs mineral pools. 

We book this deal every year and spend about $250 per night for 1 room and this all-inclusive package.

The Lodge is made up of 4 levels with the Lobby being on the second level.

Inside, the lobby is very open and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and will answer any question you have about the pool or the town.

Hotel rooms at the Glenwood Springs Lodge

The hotel rooms are spacious with comfy beds and pillows. They offer:

• Standard rooms with king & queen beds
• Premium rooms with mountain views and a private balcony
• Suites come with multiple beds, pull-out couch, and a wet bar
• And connecting rooms for large families or groups.

Each room comes with a microwave, mini fridge, hair dryer, and a small coffee maker.

You will also get complimentary bathroom toiletries like shampoo, body wash, and lotion that is from the Spa of the Rockies across the street.

The grounds at the Lodge are regularly groomed and well maintained.

The Lodge also backs up right against the mountains which makes for a beautiful backdrop and time of year but particularly so during the fall and winter months.

Multiple parking lots are available behind the hotel that are privately available for guests only.

In order to access the parking lots you need to swipe your room key.

Or if you’re just visiting for the day, you can park for free in one of the public spaces in front of the Spa of the Rockies.

Soak in the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool

The large hot springs pool is 405 feet long and 100 feet wide at the widest point; making it the world’s largest mineral hot springs pool. 

It contains over 1 million gallons of water and is kept at about 90° F / 32° C year round. Even in freezing temperatures! 

The main pool features a diving board and exercise lap lanes at the west side.

The therapy pool or hot tub, is much smaller at 100 feet long and contains 91,000 gallons of water. 

Which still makes it the largest hot tub I have ever seen!

The water in the therapy pool is kept at a comfortable temperature of about 104° F / 40° C. A soak in the therapy pool is amazing for soothing sore muscles and other body aches.

Daily pool passes can cost anywhere from $18-35 per pass, per day, depending on the time of year you visit. 

Cheaper passes are available for children ages 3-12 and infants can get in for free.

Private cabanas can also be rented, and they seat about 6-8 people comfortably. The cabanas come with comfy chairs, 4 towels, 4 bottles of water and a mini-fridge. 

The Glenwood hot springs pool is open daily from 9am-9pm year-round, except on holidays.

And swimming during the day is a completely different experience than soaking at night.

During the daytime it’s a fun but relaxing resort with food, and drinks available. 

And on weekends during the day you can ride a tube in the lazy river or play in the Sopris Splash Zone.

But the evening times are our favorites thanks to a more relaxing atmosphere with beautiful sunsets, cooler weather, and colorful twinkling lights. 

Best times to visit the Glenwood Springs Hot Springs

Summertime is a busy time for the hot springs pool and a favorite for families and kids.

But the fall and winter months are also popular times to soak in the pools. 

With a temperature of 90-104 degrees the water is always perfect on cold, or even snowy winter days.

Plus, the Glenwood Hot Springs Spa has seasonal specials where you can save up to $6 per pool pass, depending on the time of year you visit. 

They call these times of year their “value seasons” which is usually during fall and spring before the busy tourist season starts. 

Getting to the Glenwood Hot Springs

Getting to Glenwood Springs is pretty easy and the drive through Glenwood Canyon is absolutely gorgeous.

The city is located along I-70 about 3 hours west of Denver. You’ll take exit 116 to access the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool.

Or if you’re taking the California Zephyr, the Glenwood Springs Train Depot is located in the heart of downtown on 7th street. 

The depot is within walking distance of the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort as you cross over the Colorado River. 

There is also a direct shuttle from the Denver International Airport directly to Glenwood Springs provided by Epic Mountain Express.
